We have arrived!

After a delightful flight (yes, really!), a couple of train rides and a unlicensed taxi ride we finally arrived at Jazz hostel on Times Square. Hanging out on the hostel was more interesting than we thought, especially the roof was awesome!

We have arrived!
This.. is... New York City!

The journey to the USA was actually very pleasant. I had prepared so much entertainment it was bizarre: two newspapers, three books, an Ipod and a laptop with 2 seasons of British comedy. I could have spared me the effort, because the plane had a brilliant entertainment system with a LOT of movies and TV shows.

Getting from the airport to the hostel was another matter, we really felt like confused headless chicken, going back and forth and trying to decide how to get anywhere.

When we got to the hostel (thanks to a smooth talking black guy in a black unlicensed taxi) things went smoother. At least so we thought, but then we had a few problems:

Chris has only one VISA card, and it apparently doesn't work here. And his phone doesn't work here, so he has to use the work phone. Our adapters doesn't work for our laptops. And I swear my Ipod was here a moment ago, but I can't find it!

I was getting cranky and annoyed, so the only thing to do was get something to eat. We went to 8th avenue, and found a great place with a roof terrace and a view to the busy street.

After burgers and beer, my mood was vastly improved! We got a bunch of Heinekens and went to the hostel. In the lounge downstairs we met a bunch of friendly people, and had a great time. :-)

We climbed up the fire escape to the roof. It was a bit scary, dark and steep stairs and a loong way down. But once we got up there we got an awesome view of the nearby skyscrapers. And the timing was perfect, the sun was setting just as we got to the roof. We got some nice pictures of the buildings in the sunset, check them out!

Top of the Rock, Central Park, and a great night at the comedy club! Coutinuing with the touristy stuff, we went to the Top of the Rock to see the amazing views of the city from up there. Afterwards we walked up fifth avenue to Central Park, and in the evening we met up with Kelly and went to Comedy Corner.

Dancing all night at Webster Hall

Dancing all night at Webster Hall At the hostel reception, we met the cutest little asian girl we had ever seen: Kelly from Singapore. She told us she had just arrived, and had just signed up to the Club Tour arranged by the hostel. We signed up immediately, of course!

Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty cruise

Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty cruise After a few intense days of partying and being mostly hung over doing nothing during the days, we decided we should finally get our act together and do some touristy stuff. It was a bit late when we finally got up and moving, but we eventually managed to get on a subway all the way down to South Ferry, to go see the Statue of Liberty.

Drinking games at the hostel - I am moosemaster!

Drinking games at the hostel - I am moosemaster! We were tired and hung over, and just wanted to do nothing. But the crew at the hostel wanted to go out clubbing, and how could we resist? So after a quiet day midtown, we headed back to the hostel, dressed up, and someone pulled out a deck of cards.

The breakdance battle party in Queens

The breakdance battle party in Queens We had seen a poster online, saying there was a hiphop party in queens, at this place called La Oveja Negra. We had no idea where that would be, but decided to get over there and check it out.

Little Italy, Chinatown and bringing the party to the hostel

Little Italy, Chinatown and bringing the party to the hostel We were doing an experiment, drunken shopping in the daytime. One beer on each pub, then move on. We went through SoHo this way, then decided to start a party at the hostel.

Learning breakdance at the Graffiti Wall of Fame

Learning breakdance at the Graffiti Wall of Fame I'd really been looking forward to this: A visit to the Graffiti Wall of Fame in Harlem. And we were fortunate to have Alyssa, the hip hop dance teacher with us as well! We took the subway up there and had so much fun playing around in that schoolyard!

Day 3 - Getting our art on

Day 3 - Getting our art on After doing nothing yesterday, except sleeping in late and mindlessly walking around looking at the bright and shiny lights of Time Square, we had to do something crazy wild today. And what sounds more crazy then going to the new museum of contemporary art? El nada!

Roadtrip!! Desperately trying to get to a concert on time

Roadtrip!! Desperately trying to get to a concert on time We had two Jay-z tickets and one problem: The concert was like 200 miles outside the city, in a indian reservation called Mohegan way up in Conneticut. So we figured we had to rent a car to get there. And thus our US road trip began:
