This day we hadn't planned anything special, so we just went back to Soho where we were yesterday.
And we had a lot of unexplored territory to explore.
As the environmentalists we are, we took the subway down to SoHo, well actually NoHo, which is north of Houston street, and started making our way down. One thing we noticed was that the streets looked more like a slum, then shopping streets. The inside of the stores on the other hand, was a whole different story. Designer clothes, shoes, furniture, you name it. There were shops for everything, and it wasn't cheap.
10 or so stores later we found the Apple Store, and it was *huuuge*. It even had a theater in it, sweet!
The whole place was crawling with people, and filled with macs and iphones up to the ceiling. The whole shop was set up nicely and was aesthetically impressive.
We stopped for some food, and what seemed like a dodgy slushie, but wasnt. Mmm tasty, and somehow very addictive.
Anyways, we got our shopping done, and took the subway back, and went to the hostel.
Later the same evening we're down in the lounge, lounging..
We hang out for a bit before we decide to join Cameron, cause he was going to meet a friend at a bar.
What seemed like 17 subway rides over the course of years, we arrive one and a half hour later at Bar XII.
It sucked. After one beer we decided to move on to another place. Worth mentioning btw, are the 20 big screen and the 5 small screen TV's, can't have enough TV's in a bar, apparently!
We grabbed a cab to Bowery street after a tip from a girl at the bar. That's when things got interesting.
We aksed (notice the ghetto slang) the first guy we saw, if he knew some good bars around, and he lets us know that we were standing outside of one, and it has a open mic night right now. Awesome! He introduces himself as "Chipz da general", and told us he just performed. We stay talk to him for a bit, while his photographer makes a video and takes a few picture of us posing, throwing up gang signs like we had a bad case of cerebral palsy.
Btw. check out http://myspace.com/chipzdageneral for more info on the dude. He even put a pic of us up on his profile.
We go in to the offputtingly dull bar, pass the curtains and blam, full-on hardcore rapping is going on, with the obligatory crowd shouting "ooooh!! shiiit!!". Neat-o!
The act finishes and we grab a few pics with him. Another act steps up to the stage, and we join the shouting crowd.
Disappointment struck as we find out that was the last act of the night, especially since we forked up 15 bucks each to enter.
On the street outside we once again found our selves talking to another up and coming artist, Consuous walker. We hang out for a bit, even got to listen to an early demo to his CD, good shit.
As the evening turned in to night, and the night turned in to morning, we head up town to our safe, more familiar surroundings.
Scouring the city for open pizza places for 10 minutes, we finally finds one that is open. On the way home, we walked in to one of New York's finest, aka Officer Clasper of the NYPD. We have a friendly chat with him for a few minutes and head home. All in all an eventful night.
