Learning breakdance at the Graffiti Wall of Fame

I'd really been looking forward to this: A visit to the Graffiti Wall of Fame in Harlem. And we were fortunate to have Alyssa, the hip hop dance teacher with us as well! We took the subway up there and had so much fun playing around in that schoolyard!

Learning breakdance at the Graffiti Wall of Fame
We are invading the hall of fame!!

We met up with Alyssa for a really unhealthy, not very tasty and way too early breakfast. Pancakes with syrup, what a way to jumpstart your metabolism!

Anyway, we took the subway to harlem, and made our way to the school with the famous walls. And I have to say, once we got there the sight was amazing! So much detail, so many cool paintings!

My favourite ones were of the subway cart and the green stuff next to it, really sweet! Be sure to check out the pictures! Unfourtunately the battery went out on my camera, so I didn't get to take as many pictures, hopefully we can get some more from Alyssa later on.

Freeze, punks!
Alyssa asked if we wanted to learn some freezes, and we accepted - of course we wanted! A freeze is part of breakdance, for example you can do a spin and end up with your body locked still in one position after the move.

It took some arm and core strength, but after a few minutes scrambling around on the sidewalk outside the school, managed to get up on our arms for our first freeze. We actually learned several of the easier freezes rather quickly, alyssa is a good teacher. Lots of fun!

Afterwards we went inside the playground, and walked around for a bit, watching all the tags on the walls in there. There was a track inside, which was a very good foundation to do some more freezes. Alyssa taught us how to get up in a handstand, and we managed to get a some awesome poses, Chris even got up on one hand for a bit, that was amazing! We'll post the pictures once we get them from Alyssa.

The Lounge at the hostel
Afterwards we were exhausted and our hands hurt like hell, so we had to go home. There was nothing going on in the lounge that night. The lounge has been really disappointing, we were expecting daily events and a party every night, but instead it's usually filled with people reading books, surfing the net and watching TV. Tonight, everyone was wathcing some crappy US dating reality show on VH1. God, TV sucks over here.

Hangover!
Anyway, we decided to just go to the movies, and went to the evening performance of Hangover. That movie was AWESOME! So funny and so well put together. Especially love that asian gangster. Tudelu motherfuckaaaaaaa!

You didn't break anything either? I am quite sure that if i did something like those moves, i would end up with a dislocated shoulder or more likely something more serious.

Great trip so far! Keep writing. I love reading it. F says hi.

Dancing all night at Webster Hall

Dancing all night at Webster Hall At the hostel reception, we met the cutest little asian girl we had ever seen: Kelly from Singapore. She told us she had just arrived, and had just signed up to the Club Tour arranged by the hostel. We signed up immediately, of course!

Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty cruise

Battery Park and the Statue of Liberty cruise After a few intense days of partying and being mostly hung over doing nothing during the days, we decided we should finally get our act together and do some touristy stuff. It was a bit late when we finally got up and moving, but we eventually managed to get on a subway all the way down to South Ferry, to go see the Statue of Liberty.

Drinking games at the hostel - I am moosemaster!

Drinking games at the hostel - I am moosemaster! We were tired and hung over, and just wanted to do nothing. But the crew at the hostel wanted to go out clubbing, and how could we resist? So after a quiet day midtown, we headed back to the hostel, dressed up, and someone pulled out a deck of cards.

Little Italy, Chinatown and bringing the party to the hostel

Little Italy, Chinatown and bringing the party to the hostel We were doing an experiment, drunken shopping in the daytime. One beer on each pub, then move on. We went through SoHo this way, then decided to start a party at the hostel.

Day 3 - Getting our art on

Day 3 - Getting our art on After doing nothing yesterday, except sleeping in late and mindlessly walking around looking at the bright and shiny lights of Time Square, we had to do something crazy wild today. And what sounds more crazy then going to the new museum of contemporary art? El nada!

Roadtrip!! Desperately trying to get to a concert on time

Roadtrip!! Desperately trying to get to a concert on time We had two Jay-z tickets and one problem: The concert was like 200 miles outside the city, in a indian reservation called Mohegan way up in Conneticut. So we figured we had to rent a car to get there. And thus our US road trip began:
